FAQ

How can I find an OT in private practice?
Download the complete list of private providers here.

How much can I expect to pay for the OT services?
The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Occupational Therapist recommends the hourly rate of:
$93/hour for occupational therapy services

Exceptional circumstances which may result in a rate lower or higher than this include, but is not limited to:

  • Lump sum agreement for services
  • Agreements between the provider of services and the client which factor in economies of scale
  • Market value of the occupational therapy service is exceptionally high (e.g.highly specialized service/practice area)or low (e.g. service is available from other providers not necessarily OT's)
Respectfully submitted October 2010
This rate is subject to change on a yearly basis.

Will my insurance cover the costs?
Currently, the only insurance company which covers occupational therapy services up to $500 is Desjardins. Other insurance companies may also cover occupational therapy services for services which are not specific to occupational therapy but part of the scope of occupational therapists such as the cost associated for custom orthotics.

As an injured worker, you may also be entitled to occupational therapy services (such as recommendation for ergonomic equipment, rehabilitation, monitored return to work programs, etc.) as part of your recovery and return to work. This would be covered through the worker compensation system. Other occupational therapy services which may be covered by workers compensation include home assessments (with recommendations for assistive devices, personal care, and/or home modifications in relation to your compensable injury).

As a veteran, you may also be entitled to occupational therapy services related to home assessments. You may also be entitled to the services of occupational therapist when returning to work.
